Alternative Snow Stage Course

Contingency Snow Stage Courses

Contingency Snow Stage Courses

The Contingency Committee may consider implementing one or more of the following strategies if deemed necessary in the interests of athlete safety:

  • Shorten the distance of the Snow Stage through the implementation of an alternative Course
  • Delay the start of the Event
  • Postpone the Event to the Contingency Day
  • Deletion of a leg to allow for a 3 stage Triathlon (Run-Bike-Skull)
  • Cancellation of the event

If the Contingency Committee decide the preferred Event will use an alternative Snow Stage course, the appropriate course option will be selected according to prevailing weather and operational conditions at Turoa Ski Area.

In the interests of safety, it is preferable all snow courses must be able to ski to base.

Contingency Course Version 1

The Ski or Snowboard Course will start at the top of the Giant Chair (weather dependent) and will proceed to the Transition Area in the Plaza, adjacent to the Alpine Café.

The course will proceed down  “Why Not”. There, the natural ampitheatre guides the course downhill towards “Boneyard”. Another fast downhill section wihout gates, before athletes funnel onto the narrow “Clarry’s Track”. As Athletes approach the snowline, marshals will guide them towards the marked Transition Zone.

Contingency Course Version 2

The Ski or Snowboard Course will start at the base of the High Noon Express (weather dependent) and will proceed to the Transition Area in the Plaza, adjacent to the Alpine Café.

The course will proceed downhill towards “Boneyard”, without gates, before athletes funnel onto the narrow “Clarry’s Track”. As Athletes approach the snowline, marshals will guide them towards the marked Transition Zone.

Contingency Course Version 3

The Ski or Snowboard Course will start at the Snowflake Café (weather dependent) and will proceed to the Transition Area in the Plaza, adjacent to the Alpine Café.

The course will proceed downhill towards the narrow “Clarry’s Track”. As Athletes approach the snowline, marshals will guide them towards the marked Transition Zone.

Contingency Course Version 4

Should it not be possible for the Ski or Snowboard Course to finish at the base area, an alternative course, taking in the Alpine Meadow will be created (snow dependent).
