Bike Stage: 12.5km
Leaving Transition, Athletes follow the Ohakune Mountain Road all the way to Thames Street, Ohakune. The gradient of the road is such that Athletes can free-wheel almost all the way to the “Big Dipper” at the 4.7km mark. There are a couple of very steep sections that will require all Athletes to slow down, in particular “Rimu Hill” at the 7.4km mark.
As Athletes pass under the Railway Bridge, they will need to slow down before rounding the Left Hand Corner to Thames Street. You must dismount at the “Dismount Line”on Thames Street. Athletes will run into the final Transition Zone where marshals will assist you with your bike.
For first timers to the event, this is where all the andrenalin kicks in! As you head under the Railway Bridge, be ready to slow down and turn a sharpish left. There will be a “Dismount Line” marked on the road, this is where you need to jump off your bike. Marshals will be there to help you, as your legs will be fighting the jelly wobbles!
